High Academic Achievers

Den 2 has several program support areas that offer help to students to achieve success. These also apply to other SLC’s at Pajaro Valley High. Since we have a high English language learner population, it is important to address these needs in regular curriculum through differentiating levels of assigned work. It is an area we are working on and seek to improve.
Below are support areas in place which serve to help foster student success.
After School English Learner Tutorial
A support tutorial for language learners is offered twice a week in Ms. Fernandez’ room. Students who need assistance with content area work can get help in any of their classes. Attendance is currently optional.
CAHSEE Intervention Advisories
Students in tenth grade who have not scored strongly in the practice test are scheduled into grade level CAHSEE preparatory advisories. Eleventh and twelfth grade students who have not passed are also scheduled into such advisory classes.
Language Arts/Math Common Assessments
As a district wide goal, implementing quarterly common assessments of essential standards will begin this year. Language arts will have grade level data teams review results and determine individual student needs towards mastery of designated standards. Math will do the same by particular courses. As a small learning community, the work of the data teams will be helpful in determining the needs of students in Den 2 and all grade level teachers across content areas can work together to address student needs. The aims of student success and achievement in all classes can be potentially realized as a result.
