Den 2 Goes Global
The 1st PVHS students went on an exchange with partner school Liceo Scientifico in spring 2009. Thirteen students spent 9 days with their 20 Italian pen friends.
Global Partner Schools

There is no better way to have students understand what it means to be part of a larger society than to develop friendships with teens from other countries. Den 2 has a commitment to maintain partners with schools all over the world (currently France, Russia, Italy, Brazil, and Africa) to establish such friendships. Through cultural exchanges via e-mail, students can learn much about life in another part of the world and in doing so they also see how similar our lives can be, too.
Beyond cultural exchanges, academic projects can be worked on together collaboratively as well. An aim is to see what social, environmental, and political issues happen not just locally, but across the globe.
Our 1st Student Exchange –Spring 2009

These PVHS students traveled in their first student exchange in May 2009. The students made the trip in part sponsored by the GRIZZLY GALLOP Club.
Italian Students Visit California

On April 15th through the 25th in 2009, twenty students from Siena Italy visited Watsonville California. Twelve families from our town hosted these students and many were penfriends established in the months prior to their visit. Among the places visited were Capitola, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Monterey, and Aptos. Some of the special trips included a visit to City Hall where the mayor welcomed them, a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Steinhart Museum in San Francisco and also Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf.
PVHS GOES TO ITALY

On May 4th through the 13th, 12 students from PVHS and one student from Aptos High traveled to Siena Italy. The visit included tours of places such as Rome, Florence, San Gimignano, Montalcino, Pienza, Assisi, and Buonconvento. Students visited the Vatican and spent time with host families who were in most cases their penfriends from previous months. They also attended classes at Liceo Scientifico where they worked together with their Italian partners on a survey exploring cultural differences and similarities.

An Academic Exchange Trip

Part of this exchange trip involved many museum visitations. Since this trip occurred during the school year, a requirement involved journals about these visitations. Students might have earned some history credit in their absence with their presenting of historic facts learned from these many visitations depending on the teacher at PVHS.
Below see the pictures from their visit in the Powerpoint pictorial.
