Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLR'S)

The expected school wide learning results are very close in idea but do have distinct differences. As caretakers of the environment, how do we accomplish the task of students caring enough to take even minimal actions to change ways that harm our world. As educators, the task of promoting environment stewardship compels us to act as models for this, too. What are we doing as adults to forward this goal? Actions always speak louder than words. For students to truly become global citizens, they need to understand they are part of a worldwide community, a task that requires they think beyond themselves & their immediate community. How does that happen? While addressing these important humane ideals, addressing the all important goal of high academic achievement is also a charge for the PVHS student to comprehend.

Den 2 has several program support areas that offer help to students to achieve success. These also apply to other SLC’s at Pajaro Valley High. Since we have a high English language learner population, it is important to address these needs in regular curriculum through differentiating levels of assigned work. It is an area we are working on and seek to improve.
Below are support areas in place which serve to help foster student success.
After School English Learner Tutorial

A support tutorial for language learners is offered twice a week in Ms. Fernandez’ room. Students who need assistance with content area work can get help in any of their classes. Attendance is currently optional.
Den 2 Potential Goals for the ESLR’S
The challenge is in assessing whether students have really attained these outcomes. Over this next year, deciding how these ESLR’S fit into the regular curriculum can be a worthwhile task. Determining how they can be integrated in a meaningful way and on a somewhat essential basis will be an aspect for discussion in our SLC in the coming year. Developing a rubric for assessment of student progress towards the ESLR’S is a needed avenue to undertake if we are to make serious our commitment to these goals. As a possible and realistic next step, the den can make a commitment to determining particular work in the year which accomplishes achievement toward them. It may be a good beginning point.
