ENG 1 School-Wide Integrates MBA Awareness in Curriculum

Freshmen year involves a January field trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to begin introducing conservation ideas within students. Each SLC determines how this can be integrated somewhere in their curriculum preceding this trip; the trip is considered “a day of school at the aquarium.” Below are ways some of the teachers in our language arts programs at PVHS among the varied SLC’s have chosen to do this in 2009:

Den 1 & 4

Travel To A Habitat –students research one of the habitats near our school & including ocean habitats encompassing the Sanctuary.

Den 2

Otter Project and Watershed Projects (See Project Based Learning under ACADEMICS page).

Den 3

Conservation Magazine-students developed a magazine representing varied conservation messages regarding endangered animals in the Monterey Bay Sanctuary.

Monterey Bay Aquarium Support

Teachers are fortunate to have great support from MBA in the months leading up this field trip. There are also summer offered institutes to aid teacher awareness off these conservation issues as well. This year, the MBA also supported teachers at PVHS to work with the summer WATCH students who will be mentored by these teachers in their environment projects in the coming school year.
