GIRL'S VOLLEYBALL CLUB-Watsonville Starlings
Watsonville Starlings is a volleyball league in which some of our students participate. According to Monica Jara, "We practice every Sunday from 4-7 at PVHS. We usually have tournaments every week and towards the end of our season, we go to SanDiego and LA for a one week tournament. I've been in Starlings for two years and I really enjoy it. Satrlings lets you meet new people and shows you how to play with people you've never played with before."
PVHS GIRL'S SOCCER SEASON BEGINS
According to Marlene Garcia, Gaby Yepez, and Geo Jurado, the pre-season for soccer has been really good! "EVen though we lost our first two games," says Gaby, "it's been really fun. We don't give up, and we try our best to win! We make some mistakes, but little by little we're going to correct our mistakes. One thing we do have is we get along well with each other. What we also like about soccer is that when we play games with other schools, we get experience and learn from our mistakes."
PVHS WRESTLING
John Campos is currently a sophomore and seated number 10 in the Central Coast Section (CCS). As a freshman, John's record was 17-4 going undefeated in the Monterey Bay League and being league champion. John was the only one in school history to be a freshman with the title of being a league champion and the only one ever to make the second day of CCS. He says,"I hope to be undefeated all season this year instead of just league, bring home the gold at CCS, and go to State." How is that for setting yourself some goals?
FOOTBALL-"The Great Season"
"Football is not an easy sport," says Jessie Mesa. "I started playing footballwhen I was six years old. I guess I was alright-nothing too big. Coming into this football season, I knew that I had to step up. The football team was alright, but it was up to me to get my team the wins and respect we have all benn waiting for. We finished off the season 5-9-1 which is the best JV record in PV history. Some of our key wins were our Homecoming game against Sequoia our cross city rival Watsonville High. And step up is what I did. I finished the season off with 7 interceptions, 3 touchdowns, 2 forced fumbles, and 209 rushing yards. One of our own-Luciano Cortes ended his season with an injury though and is recovering this semester."
